About Teri

Teri is a native of Seattle and began singing at the age of 7.Her first experience in fronting a band as a lead vocalist was in high school; a band called Pat's Katz and Jammers. They played every Veteran hospital and rest home throughout the state for two years.

Right out of high school, she left with a band for two years on the road and sang in clubs through out the states. With a desire for more challenge, she came home and received a scholarship in the Jazz vocal program at Cornish College of the Arts. Teri spent the next years studing with Gary Peacock, Joni Metcalf, Julian Priester,and many more. You will see no matter what musical project she takes on, her love of jazz always shows in her work.

Out of school,she started a band, Hot Pursuit. They played Motown and plenty of R&B mostly in Washington and Oregon. Two years after the break up of Hot Pursuit, her next band was created, Red Dressed, a Jazz and Blues quartet.

Teri decided to move into the gospel scene shortly after Red Dressed. She began working in a few of the gospel churches and for the next two years, that is the only performing she did. This is where she met Michael Peterson, national country star, and recorded backups with him on his gospel album. Next s he worked with local band, Blues Therapy for three years.

Teri ranks high among this generation of singers. Her passion for singing always leading her path. She began teaching. She continues to teach around her performing schedule.

Working now as the Teri Derr Band , she has been seen at many of the local venues most notably the Bite of Seattle, The Sky Church at EMP, The Port Townsend Festival, and the Alaska Folk and Blues Festival. Her new cd of originial works, Don't lose Heart , has finally gotten her some of the attention she deserves.
